Judith Watson is a qualified Pilates Teacher in both Mat Work and Large Pilates Equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel and Chair) and is a Back4Good Practitioner and Back Care Professional. She started doing Pilates in 2003 as a result of seeking something that would help her with the chronic back pain that had, for many years, hindered her mobility and activities she enjoyed doing, such as gardening, walking, aerobics and other sports. She found almost immediately that she was able to find pathways to movement that could reduce her back pain and some days lead her to being pain free which for her was like getting a new lease of life. The level of anxiety and tension that is associated with chronic back pain began to disappear.
From a young age, Judith has always been involved in fitness training both in her own body plus working for sports associations around the world helping improve safety and accessibility of sport to grass roots.
Since qualifying as a teacher in 2004, she has continued to train extensively with her own Association, Body Control Pilates. She has trained to help her clients during pregnancy as well as those who have osteoporosis and is involved in helping the Osteoporosis Society. She has studied to improve her understanding of chronic low back pain achieving the REPS Level 4 accreditation. As well as back care, her focus of her training has been to enable her clients to achieve energy efficient and functional movement to help them improve their quality of flexibility and strength, not only at her sessions, but in their functional and practical lives. As well as helping her clients she also mentors students of the Pilates Method both in her Mat Classes and at her Studio on the Large Equipment.
She’s inspired by everything that she learns and wants to share it with her clients. She continues on a weekly basis with her own personal training having 1:1s and also attending a master class for teachers. She sees her ongoing training as vital to keep up to date with a fast changing industry. Judith has learned most of all from her wonderful clients and it is what makes her love and passion for Pilates most worthwhile.
In order to reach her level of teaching it has entailed evidencing her ability to teach safe, effective group classes, showing good observation and correction skills. It is of the utmost priority to make sure clients are taught safely, they develop a mutual trust and achieve their goals.
Judith also works with local GP practices and alternative medical practitioners including the Birbeck Health Centre in Sidcup and the Bexley Osteopath Clinic. It is a referral programme that is developing and knowledge between therapists and movement specialists continues to grow.
She continues to explore other forms of movement to enhance her teaching skills and with great enthusiasm runs her style of 'boot camp' which incorporates fitness, holistic and creative elements. Known as A Day in Your Life, the first event took place in the Autumn of 2014 at Livingstone House in Chislehurst.
