WHAT IS PILATES

Pilates is a balanced blend of strength and flexibility training which improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles without bulking up.

The Method concentrates on good alignment, core stability and correct breathing while you exercise. This enables the muscles in the body to work well avoiding muscle imbalances which often cause tension and pain.

Pilates comes highly recommended by the health professionals because it is low impact but helps to build bone density and promote good joint mobility without being stressful to the body. It is suitable for all ages and all abilities.

 

AN ANIMATED HISTORY OF PILATES

This short video is an excellent detailed history of Joseph Pilates's life from childhood until his death.  It lets us know how his childhood ailments and his internment through World War 1 shaped so much of who and what Pilates became in later life.  A truly inspirational person.
